We sing for the audience: Sabri Brothers
The Sabri Brothers —Hashim and Aftab Sabri — are known for making the audience sing along with them. The members of the qawwali group, who will be performing for the first time at the Times Pune Festival, are geared up to present a mix of Sufi and Bollywood music for their Pune fans. As versatile singers, they believe that good lyrics and the mood are important aspects of a qawwali.

To perform today at Shaniwarwada, the Sabri Brothers will be accompanied by Javed Ali and Fazil Khan on tabla, Mohammed Yusuf on banjo, Shezad Khan on octopad, Mohammed Jamir on dholak, Raees Khan on chorus and Mohammed aka Yusuf Pappu on keyboards.
When asked whether they perform qawwalis in their original form or add their own style, Hashim exsaid, “Hum audience ke liye hi gaate hain. We go by the audience reaction and improvise our set list according to the vibe we receive from them. And we do add our own style. Be it a jugalbandi or a song, we make sure it is engaging and has the audience hooked.”
The performances will include some popular numbers from films like Tere Naam, Heena and Main Hoon Naa among others. They also welcome requests from the audience.
Complimentary invites are available on a first-come-first-serve basis at The Times of India office, FC Road, between 10 am and 5 pm.
