If all goes well, the voice of “Iktara” will soon resonate through Tollywood’s alleyways. Kavita Seth, who had every music enthusiast waking up and taking note of her soulful singing when she rendered “Iktara” in the Ranbir Kapoor-Konkona Sen Sharma starrer “Wake Up Sid”, has signed on her first Tollywood venture. Kavita will be singing a Sufi song in Kris Alin’s next Bengali film, music of which is scored by Abhishek Basu.
Abhishek, obviously, can’t stop grinning from ear to ear. His relationship with the singer goes back a long way. “I’ve known Kavitaji for quite some time now. I had sent her the track and she readily agreed,” he says. In the song, the heroine will seen relating her past to her present. So, what’s the film all about? Kris, whose previous was the Subrat Dutta-Indrani Halder starrer “Antim Swas Sundor”, explains, “It’s a young college love story in a thriller backdrop. A thread of suspense runs through the entire film. The script has just been completed but the cast is yet to be locked. Meanwhile, Abhishek and I had a couple of music sessions. There are a few intense moments in the film and we felt that Kavitaji’s voice would do justice to the same.”
The recording will take place end-October. Talking about the song, Abhishek says, “Kavitaji is currently focussing on her Sufi albums. When she heard this part-Urdu, part-Hindi composition, she was quite upbeat about lending her voice to it.” The singer is also no less excited. “It’s always special to work for the audience of Kolkata. Such soulful compositions are always welcome,” says Kavita, who has recently sung “Intezaar” for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s forthcoming film, “My Friend Pinto”.
The lyrics of the song, which goes like: “Viraaniyan seeya asman tere hi dar pe maula maula/Zindagi mehez ek khata”, has both fusion and psychedelic treatments to the same. The credit for arranging the music goes to Indrajit Dey. “Kavitaji keeps asking me, ‘When I am listening to the final scratch?’ It’s her dedication that has brought her this far,” says Abhishek, adding that working with Rekha Bhardwaj is also on the cards. “Talks are on with Rekhaji for a Hindi venture, but nothing has been finalized as yet,” he signs off.
