On Morrison’s birthday (today) every year, pubs and clubs around the world play The Doors tracks and covers of their music done by the many musicians who came after them.

James Douglas was born on December 8, 1943. Famously known as Jim Morrison, the man fronted The Doors, one of the most successful and the greatest rock bands ever. Morrison, who lived for just 27 years, was obsessed with the darker, more sinister aspects of life – something which made his music very special but also led to his death.
Morrison had an IQ of 149 and was extremely well read.

He, along with this bandmates, chose the name The Doors for the band after reading a poem by William Blake, specially the verses: If the doors of perception were cleansed/ All things would appear infinite. Morrison achieved cult status even while he was alive, not only because of his music, but also because of his onstage antics such as exposing his private parts, touching himself and smashing the microphone and hurling the stand at the audience, something he did during his last stage performance.
Even 38 years after he died, rock lovers the world over still love the man who defied all conventional ‘good’ sense, drinking and drugging himself into oblivion, and finally, death. The Lizard King, as he was also called, wore the mask of the tortured artiste, who was looking for answers and redemption.
