The recent Delhi gang-rape case united people across the country in their demand for a safer India for women. Singer Palash Sen, of Delhi-based band Euphoria, along with lyricist Deekshant, has penned his thoughts in a poem titled Balaatkar. The poem revolves around how it’s high time we stand up and speak up for our rights. Sharing his thoughts on the same, he expresses, “This poem was written in the last four days.
I think it’s not a sexist problem, it’s more of a social problem. We call India
Bharat Mata and we worship goddesses, yet surprisingly all our abuses are linked to women and we objectify women. Why?”
About the Delhi gangrape case, he says, “It's not now that rapes are taking place; it’s just that now they have been highlighted. I want to know what happened to all those cases in the past. We have suffered because of obsolete laws. It’s high time we speak up and know our rights.”
A few lines from the poem:
Vaar hai, prahaar hai, ye satya ka sanhaar hai..
Tera nahi, mera nahi, ye desh ka balaatkaar hai..
Wo poochte hain, theek hai?
Hamdardi hai ya bheekh hai?
Jab bebasi hai bolti,
Toh beasar har cheekh hai..
Na mard hain baaki yahaan ..
Namard hai khaki yahaan,
Andha yahaan kanoon hai,
Aur sunn ye sarkaar hai..
