Days after rocking Bangalore, heavy metal kings Metallica have returned to their home country just in time to launch their new album, Lulu, which is in collaboration with Lou Reed, an avant garde rocker. The name 'Lulu' is inspired from German expressionist writer Frank Wedekind's 'plays' Earth Spirit and Pandora's Box, which tell the story of a young abused dancer's life and relationships and are now collectively known as the Lulu plays.
After Lou Reed performed with Metallica at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concerts in New York in 2009 they all knew they wanted to make more music together. The Lulu project began in May 2011 at HQ studios in Northern California, with Lou's lyrics as the starting point.
LULU comes to India immediately after the massive success of Metallica's first ever live performance in India. Metallica played to 35,000 fans at Palace Grounds last Sunday and it was probably the best 'live' gig to ever happen in India.
Said Devraj Sanyal, MD Universal Music India & SAARC, "To release Lulu on the back of the massive success of Metallica's super successful gig in Bangalore is one more opportunity for the Metallica fans to immerse themselves in the music of their favorite band and one of the biggest bands of all time. Songs like 'Iced Honey', 'Little Dog', 'Dragon' & 'Junior Dad' are representative of a new kind of sound not heard before.
"It's definitely not a Metallica album or a Lou Reed albumits something else. It's a new animal, a hybrid" said Metallica lead guitarist Kirk Hammet
LULU the album is available on three formats CD, CD Deluxe and Vinyl, across leading music stores Exclusively on Universal Music. Fans can also order the album on line by logging onto Flipkart.com or Kyazoonga.com.
