Sameera Reddy opens up about weighing 105 kg during pregnancy, reveals she didn't leave her house for a year

Actress Sameera Reddy, known for her roles in films like 'De Dana Dan' and 'Musafir', recently opened up about her challenging experience during and after her first pregnancy. Married to entrepreneur Akshai Varde since 2014, Sameera embraced motherhood with the birth of her son Hans and later welcomed her daughter, Nyra, in 2019.
In a candid discussion on The Debinna Bonnerjee Show, she revealed that she weighed an astonishing 105 kilograms after giving birth to her son, Hans, in 2015. This weight gain not only affected her physically but also took a toll on her mental health, leading to a year-long struggle with depression.
Sameera described how the drastic changes in her body made her feel isolated. She revealed she didn’t leave her house for a year after embracing motherhood, emphasizing the emotional burden that accompanied her physical transformation. Her experience was exacerbated by a lack of understanding from medical professionals; she noted that her gynecologist trivialized her feelings of postpartum depression, which she only recognized during her second pregnancy. This lack of awareness about postpartum issues is something Sameera believes needs to change, stating that families often shy away from discussing such topics before weddings.
During her struggles with motherhood, Sameera highlighted the support she received from Akshai, who took on many parenting responsibilities. In a past interview with Humans of Bombay, had said, “My mom-in-law said, ‘Your baby is healthy, you have a supportive husband, why are you upset?’ I had no answer. After I was discharged, I cried; I also felt guilty for not being there for Hans. This continued for a year – I’d break down often. I was completely cut off from the film industry. I still weighed 105 kgs & was diagnosed with Alopecia areata; patches of hair fell out of my head.”
