Be it a small birthday celebration or a get together, or a big party, we can’t do without good music that helps express feelings of love, passion as well as heartbreak. Raipurites prefer their music live and unplugged and thanks to it, local musicians and artists are experiencing an upsurge in their musical careers.

Modern yet peaceful While live music shows have always been a part of Indian culture, the unplugged versions of popular songs are bringing a new twist to the whole musical scenario. It is not only entertaining and lively but is also appreciated by all age groups. “Since, people in Raipur now have a thing for live music with unplugged sessions and rock bands, we have also started Rocktail Sundays at our newly opened club and dedicate at least one day of the week to Hindi and English melodies by a live band performance, apart from the regular DJ nights. The response has been tremendous and the artists and guests both are enthusiastic about this new experience,” shared Swapnil Shrivastava, a city night club owner.

@TOIEntertainWelcome change from monotony The concept of live music has come up to add something new and exciting to the monotonous city life. While it is quite common to dance and party away on Saturdays but on other days we are left with limited options. Moreover, everyone has a different taste so some people might not enjoy the usual weekends which are more about EDM and house music.
Tanisha Khare, a fashion designing student, recently had a great experience at one of the unplugged music sessions in the city. She came to know of the event through social media and was thrilled to be present there, “I am someone who loves music a lot and when I got to know about such exciting stuff happening in Raipur I rounded up a couple of my friends and we all went to enjoy it. I never knew that there are such amazing singers and drummers in our city. Hanging out at other places is very usual but such live musical events are very good. You can unwind and relax with good music all while having good food and partying,” she added.

TOIEntertain Subhash Moitra, an active member of the city’s happening party circle and a DJ, commented, “To cater to all genres and tastes and add to the city’s entertainment, city joints have come up with initiatives like ghazal nights, English rock and unplugged soul music nights. It has become increasingly popular and more than six or seven places are doing this to attract customers on regular weekdays. And we have such abundant talent in our city, amazing singers and artists; it’s a chance for them as well, to showcase their talent.”

timesofindiaAn opportunity for local musicians As Moitra rightfully pointed out, the love for live and rock music has motivated many new singers and bands across the city to polish up their raw talent and give enthralling performances. “Our band has been performing on Sundays at one of the most happening night clubs for the past two months. This new culture has given a very good opportunity to upcoming artists like us. We perform classic rock, hard rock as well as soft rock and it feels very good when we get a chance to connect with the audience at such platforms. There are many other local artists like us who are very happy with this trend,” revealed Nishanth S Nath, member of Rhetoric, a local band.

timesofindia Seconding that, Akash Roy, a medical technology student who is very passionate about singing and is the lead vocalist of a popular local band, The Black Print, said, “We started by playing at college fests and elsewhere but now we are getting a bigger platform in many cafes and clubs of the city where the demand for live music has increased. And it is amazing that they are supporting local talents like us. Even, the genre of music that we play — pop, alternative rock and ballad, is being liked by people who come to these places to experience something new. I can definitely say that my voice has reached more people now and they appreciate what we do.”
