Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma says 'mujhe regret hai' for obscene remarks at college event
Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma has finally spoken out over the controversy surrounding the alleged use of explicit language during a college event in Dehradun, saying that he deeply regrets it.
He told IANS: "Mujhe regret hai. Aur baar baar main uska... mujhe regret hai. Meri aatma ko pata hai ki main kis mental, kis position main tha us time. Mujhe uska poora regret hai. Mujhe zyada logo ko batane ki zaroorat nahi hai. (I have a lot of regret for that. My soul knows what position I was in at that time. I know, I have a lot of regret for that.I don't need to tell many people.)"
On April 12, the Haryana State Commission for Women took cognisance of a controversy involving the singer. Commission Chairperson Renu Bhatia has issued a formal notice summoning the singer to appear before the panel on April 18 at 11 a.m. at its office in Haryana's Panchkula.
According to the Commission, the alleged misconduct took place during a recent programme at DAV College Dehradun, where the singer is accused of using inappropriate language and displaying conduct considered unbecoming of a public figure.
The Commission noted that such behaviour, if established, raises serious concerns about maintaining dignity, decency and respect towards women in public spaces, especially within educational institutions.
Masoom Sharma had issued a public apology on Instagram, saying that the situation escalated due to disturbances and provocation before the event. He said that his reaction was not intentional and expressed regret over any offence caused.
Sources said that this is not the first time the singer has faced allegations regarding his conduct at public events, which has intensified scrutiny in the present case.
Masoom Sharma began his journey in music in the 2000s and is known for mixing traditional Haryanvi folk with modern desi pop. He has made songs such as "Madam Ji", "Lofar", "Tuition Badmashi Ka", "2 Numbari", "Raat Ke Shikari", and "Chambal K Dakku", among many others.
