While the premiere of “Patiala House”, held amidst much fanfare in Patiala on Thursday, may have been hugely successful for its star cast, it wasn’t such a pleasant experience for the film’s lead singer, Jasbir Jassi. As Akshay Kumar and Anushka Sharma were lapping up accolades, escorted by heavy security, Jassi was struggling to get inside the venue.
Miffed with the insult, Jassi even thought of going back from the venue once. “I was shocked. It wasn’t only me, but other singers too who had to bear the brunt of the uncontrollable crowd,” said Jassi, who couldn’t even meet the lead actors properly. The singer had to walk for half a kilometer, as he was not allowed to park his car near the venue. “Only after some cops recognized me, I could manage to park my car,” he said.
Once inside the venue, Jassi was sidestepped and not even called to share the dais with the Bollywood celebrities and Punjab deputy chief minister, Sukhbir Badal. While Akshay missed Jassi completely, it was only after someone recognized Jassi in the crowd, that he was called on stage for a while.
Sources said Akshay and Anushka were so busy with Badal and Navjot Sidhu that they forgot him completely. Inside the theatre too where the screening was on, Jassi was missing. “It’s a team effort and the movie is making waves because of its songs. The song “Laung Da Lishkara” by Jassi has become a rage, but the way he was insulted is intolerable,” informed the source. Said the singer, “All of us are working. Yes, I did feel bad, but...” Other singers present there were Amrinder Gill, Jazzy B and Pammi Bai. They also had to wade through the milling crowds to enter the venue. The show organisers argue they had made proper arrangements for the dignitaries and singers. While Akshay refused to comment on this, Jassi told us that he won’t take up the issue with Akki. “All I can say is that they should have made good arrangements. But I don’t take such things to heart,” he said.
