Melody seems to be the high point of Settai, a remake of Delhi Belly that was known more for its unapologetic rudeness. But we’re not complaining, as music buffs have quite a few things to look forward to in this album. Firstly, a pat on Thaman’s back for retaining the essence of two of the most loved songs in the Hindi original — D K Bose… and Jaa Chudail….
1x1 polls
Devan and Alaap have rendered the theme song, and replaced D K Bose with J K Boss and Nakki, the character names of Arya and Santhanam. Minus the swear words, the tunes is strikingly similar to the original. And Gaana Bala’s Nee Thaandi Osthe Ponna… has done full justice to Jaa Chudail…. There are no cuss words in the song, but his killer lyrics have the same effect — ‘Girl, what’s so appealing about the other guy that you’ve ditched me?’ Madan Karky has penned his hundredth song — Agalade Agalade… — for this film. And Vijay Prakash and Mega have beautifully rendered this soft melody. The other song, Poyum Poyum…, in the voice of Haricharan and Chinmayi, is quite similar to the previous one, except for the appealing strings prelude. Thaman has put to use his expertise in techno mixing in the other two numbers — Arjuna Arjuna… (Suchitra and Karthik) and Laila Laila… (Andrea). While the latter is pretty slow with several flat notes, the former is a scintillating, massy number.
