Sadashiv Amrapurkar: Bollywood condoles his demise

Noted actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar, who was being treated for lung infection at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital (KDAH), passed away this morning. The actor had been hospitalised two weeks ago for lung infection but succumbed to it. Fondly known as Tatya by his family and friends, he was a well known figure who acted in both Hindi and Marathi films. In his long career, he has won two Filmfare awards - in 1984, he won the award for the best supporting actor for Ardh Satya and in 1991, the best villain trophy for his portrayal of a ruthless eunuch in Sadak.With his said demise, the Hindi film fraternity condoles his death and many celebrities took to social media to pay their respects.

Known for playing iconic villainous roles in Bollywood, the late actor will be remembered forever. Film maker Mahesh Bhatt, who worked with Sadashiv Amrapurkar in Sadak, was also saddened by this news. He posted, "Goodbye Sadashiv Amrapurkar you made a difference to my life. What would SADAK be without 'Maharani'. Thank you dost." [sic]

Esha Gupta- "Rip sir Sadashiv Amrapurkar, you've been a legend. remember watching sadak and only seeing you.sure you in a better place now." [sic]

Sadashiv Amrapurkar was known for his performances in films like Aankhen, Ishq, Coolie No 1 and Gupt: The Hidden Truth among others. Condoling his death, veteran Anupam Kher tweeted, "I am so saddened to know about the demise of a fine human being & a wonderful actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar. He was a kind & a learned man. RIP"

Shivaji Satam: "#MUMBAI. A very sad day today ... losing Sadashiv Amrapurkar, a wonderful actor, a good human being !"

This versatile actor acted in more than 300 movies in Hindi, Marathi,Bengali, Oriya, Haryanvi. But since 2000 and beyond, this talented artist was hardly seen in Hindi movies. Even Bollywood's Shahenshah Amitabh Bachchan felt his loss when he posted on the micro blogging site, "T 1664 - When a colleague suddenly passes away there is a sudden vacuum, of times spent together, of acknowledgement of their work ..Waking up in Kolkata to the sad news of the passing away of Sadasiv Amrapurkar .. a colleague and a gifted talent .. prayers !!" [sic]

With mainstream heroes playing grey shades in Bollywood movies, the era of villains came to an end. But Sadashiv Amrapurkar will be etched in the memory of his fans, colleagues and loved ones for years to come. So much so that even Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his last respects. "We will remember Sadashiv Amrapurkar as a versatile actor, popular across generations. RIP. My deepest condolences to his family," Bollywood was not far behind.

Madhur Bhandarkar also paid his condolences, "Saddened to hear about the demise of #SadashivAmrapurkar. I had the privilege of working with him in my debut film Trishakti."

A philanthropist and social activist, Sadashiv Amrapurkar never refrained from voicing his opinions against what eh thought was unjust and incorrect. For this, he had to pay a heavy price when in March 2013, he was severely beaten up for protesting against water wastage during the festival of Holi.

Sadashiv Amrapurkar had worked with a lot of big names in Tinsel Town including Sanjay Dutt, Govinda, Ajay Devgn and Aamir Khan. The late actor was even supposed to play a role in YRF's much talked about film Bank Chor that has Riteish Deshmukh playing a lead role in the film.

Riteish posted, "His performances in Ardh Satya, Sadak were inspirational. Thank you,sir for the entertainment.My deepest condolences to the family. RIP. Rip Sadashiv Amrapurkarji- a great actor & a super human being. I was looking fwd to working with him in @Bankchor. Miss you sir." [sic]

Funny man Raajpal Yadav said, "The end of rustic cinematic era as we mourn the death of multifaceted actor and a compassionate #human being Mr #SadashivAmrapurkar."

Even Arjun Kapoor posted, "Thank u for entertaining us R.I.P Sadashiv Amrapurkar."

Milap Zaveri- "RIP Sadashiv Amrapurkar. A great and talented actor be it comedy or Villainy. His "Maharani"in #Sadak will always be legendary."

With his demise, Bollywood loses yet another iconic personality who entertained audiences with his antics on the silver screen. R.I.P.
