Hero to Dhoom 3: Jackie Shroff’s impressive dialogues

Jackie Shroff aka Jaggu Dada completes 59 today (Febbruay 1, 2016). Apart from being a good performer, the actor also brings a special touch to the lines he mouths. So, here are some famous dialogues by Jackie Shroff:-

Border: “The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war.”

Border is one of Jackie Shroff’s best performances and one of the finest films of his career. Despite an ensemble cast of Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, the actor managed to stand out. But, along with his performance, the dialogues too deserve credit for this. It suited Shroff’s character, who, despite being an Air Force officer, spoke in a poetic language.

Devdas: “Jahan ‘kha’ se khush hokar jeena chahiye wahan ‘kha’ se itne khamosh baithe ho. Arre ‘kha’ se itne khoye khoye ho ki pata hi nahi chalta ki aap ghar pe ho.”

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known for providing a poetic experience, be it through his direction, characterisation or even dialogue. Some poetic dialogues worked wonders for Jackie’s character, yet again, in ‘Devdas.’ Despite a superstar like Shah Rukh Khan playing the central character, Chunni Babu got noticed due to such lines.

Khalnayak: “Har khal nayak mein ek nayak chhupa hua hota hai.”

‘Khalnayak’ is yet another film where Jackie Shroff stood out despite the fact that the lead character was played by a superstar, Sanjay Dutt. Dialogues such as these should also be credited for this. This line might appear too minor but it leaves behind a terrific impact in the context of the film. This is simply because the entire story idea can be summarised in this line.

Hero: “Aapki kameez ka size bohat chhota hai sir. Kyunki mera seena aap se bohat bada hai.”

‘Hero’ was Jackie Shroff’s big Bollywood launch by the Showman, Subhash Ghai. The risk of casting a complete newcomer in the lead paid off handsomely, although the film picked up at the box-office only after a couple of weeks. Jackie played a badass sidekick of a gangster, played by Amrish Puri. Dialogues like these perfectly went well with his character.

Dhoom 3: “Haath na chhodna. Saath na chhodna.”

One might think that ‘Dhoom 3’ is all about mind-blowing stunts and Aamir Khan’s double role. Jackie Shroff had only a cameo appearance in this film as his character dies at the beginning of the film itself. Despite that, this dialogue of his has high importance since it keeps the bond between the twin brothers, played by Aamir Khan, alive.

Border: “Hum hi hum hai toh kya hum hai? Tum hi tum ho toh kya tum ho?”

The poetic side of Jackie Shroff’s character in ‘Border’ was seen when he recited these lines. This particular line holds high significance in the film. It has a deep meaning since it creates a bond between Air Force and Army officers. The line plays a role in the climax too when Jackie’s character helps the armed forces by wiping out enemies from his fighter plane.
