Here are the box office records Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’ smashed till date

Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer ‘Sultan’ is just a week into its big release, but the film has already shattered several box office records. The film, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, has already amassed an estimated total of Rs 208.82 crore at the domestic box office and is expected to cross the 400 crore mark worldwide soon. Apart from becoming 2016’s highest opener, the film is also the first to cross the 100-crore and 200-crore marks at the box office. Here’s a list of all the records the film has broken till date.

Widest film release till date:‘Sultan’ reportedly had the widest Bollywood release till date. The film released across 5,000 screens in India in addition to the 1,200 screens worldwide.

Salman Khan broke his own record in the ‘highest advance booking’ category. ‘Sultan’ collected around Rs 22-23 crore, which was about Rs six crore more than the record set by ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’, which collected about Rs 15-16 crore.

2016 has so far been a dull year for films at the box office, but not for Salman Khan, who collected a whopping Rs 36.54 crore nett on the very first day of its release. The record was held by Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Fan’ that opened to an estimated Rs 19.20 crore.

‘Sultan’ highest recorded collection was reported to be around Rs 38 crore, that is only Rs one crore short of the record set by Salman Khan last year with ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’.

Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’ crossed the 100-crore mark in just three days. The film thus equalled the record set by films like ‘Chennai Express’, ‘Dhoom 3’, ‘Happy New Year’, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’.

‘Sultan’ zoomed past ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and Aamir Khan’s ‘Dhoom 3’ to take its place in the 200-crore club. While ‘BB’ and ‘D3’ took about nine days to cross the mark, Salman Khan’s wrestling flick delivered the knockout punch and claimed the number one spot in just seven days.

‘Sultan’ was not just the fastest film to cross the 100-crore mark, but it was also recorded as the highest 3-day collector at the box office. The film collected Rs 105.32 crore which beat ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’s record of Rs 102 crore.

Salman Khan’s popularity is gaining ground across the border and the proof is in the box office collections. ‘Sultan’ is the only Bollywood film to collect Rs 4 crore in Pakistan. According to reports, it has been collecting about Rs 3-4 crore on a daily basis.

Aamir Khan’s 2014 film ‘Dhoom 3’ enjoyed the top spot as the highest opening weekend grosser with a total collection estimated at Rs 165-170 crore. The film was knocked down by Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’ which collected a staggering Rs 180 crore during its five-day weekend.

With box office numbers going up by the hour, ‘Sultan’ has left Akshay Kumar’s ‘Airlift’ in the dust to become this year’s highest grosser.
