Filmfare Awards: Interesting quotes by Shah Rukh Khan over the years

Shah Rukh Khan has been associated with Filmfare Awards for the longest of times. The actor, who has a number of Filmfare Awards to his name, is all geared up to host the event once again. Being a sovereign of words and wit, Shah Rukh Khan’s speeches has always given us an insight into his personality and his world. Here we give you a rundown of some of his best quotes over the years...

Down the memory lane

Shah Rukh Khan recently kick-started one of the Bollywood’s biggest annual awards by announcing the 63rd Jio Filmfare Awards at a press conference held in December. The actor, who will be seen hosting the event, once again, let us in on a number of personal memories of his association with Filmfare.
“When I was growing up in Delhi, I remember watching bits and pieces on television when I learnt a little about Filmfare. It was enticing and overwhelming when I first saw it on television. I didn't know then if I wanted to be actor or not. I wasn't too sure if I’d be an actor, but I had the desire that someday I’ll reach a position where I will earn as much love from the people,” he said.
As far as hosting goes, the Baadshah knows he is the best. “I think nobody is better than me. I think I host really well,” he said. “I'm impromptu, I'm handsome, I talk in Hindi and English ....if there is Filmfare for the best host I should get it,” he added.

On being a Global Icon

At the Filmfare Glamour & Style Awards held last year, the actor was honoured with the ‘Global Icon of The Year’ award for the second time in a row. The actor, who was then shooting for Imtiaz Ali's ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’, couldn't attend the event but made his presence felt by sending across a video of his acceptance speech.
According to the extract from his acceptance speech, he said, “I don't think I am an icon because my dog at home doesn't think I am an icon. My friends don't think I am an icon, my family doesn't think I am an icon. At best, they think I am someone who arrives at appointments always late.”
He further added how he considers Muhammad Ali, Amitabh Bachchan, Milkha Singh, Michael Jackson and others to be true icons.

An ode to the change

Shah Rukh Khan won a Filmfare award for the Best Actor for his film ‘Dil Toh Pagal Hai’ in 1998. In his acceptance speech, he spoke elaborately about how far he has come and so much has changed in the years rolled by.
“So much has changed since I came to Bombay...oops Mumbai! Even that has changed. Bombay has given me so much love and Mumbai has given me even more love. It has given me name, fame, awards, money, income tax raids, CBI interrogations and ladies claiming to be my mothers. But it has all been marvellous. I dedicated my first award to my mother up there and now I have become a father myself. I hope my two-and-a-half-month-old kid is watching this on television. It is nights like these which make us all actors feel really marvellous. All the tears, fears, the hurts, pains and injuries seem absolutely worthwhile when we have this beautiful black lady in our hand,” he said.

Hurt but not retired

As he came on the stage to accept his Filmfare Best Actor award for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film ‘Devdas’, the otherwise charming and witty Shah Rukh Khan seemed rather emotional and gloomy.
Speaking about it, he said, “I am a little emotional today because I have been here for 11 years. I am going in for a back surgery. Not a good thing to go in for. I am going to come back in 4-6 months and make sure I keep coming back here at Filmfare awards.”

Filmfare Power Award 50th Year

In one of the special category awards at the Filmfare Awards titled as ‘Power Award’, a notable personality from the film fraternity is honoured every year. When Shah Rukh Khan became one of the recipients of the honour, his definition of what power is and his acceptance speech was something to sit up and take note of.
Speaking on the occasion, he said, “As Mr Shatrughan Sinha said the connotation of power is something we all can be very subjective about. When I was a little younger and stupid, I thought power was being Michael Jackson, small, young black boy who grows up to be a rich white lady. I thought that was powerful. I thought powerful would be re-electing Mr Bush for the head of states for the most powerful nation in the world when he has tried his best to destroy the heads of half of the world. If genuinely you want to know the power, power is Mr Amitabh Bachchan in 'Black', that is power, the power of resilience, the power of performance and power of entertainment. Power is the power of love that has been bestowed upon us for years for someone like Yash Chopra. Power is a function of this magnitude under conditions of severe adversities.”
He added, “But having said these names, I would also tell you that nobody knows it better than the people in the film industry that the real power lies not with the single producer, director or actor, the power lies with the audience which for us is the test of our creativity, hard work and resilience. To be on this podium is to recognise the fact that in my limited capabilities, as a performer, convinced the audience of my try and entertain them.”
In conclusion, he averred, “I thank the audience of my work and promise not to break the trust and faith they have showed in my work. I will always remain the most humble and most hardworking entertainer.
