AIB Roast: Twitter reacts to Aamir Khan's stand

According to a PTI report, despite Aamir Khan's public displeasure over the comedy show AIB Roast, which had Ranveer Singh as one of the participants, Ranveer only has love and respect for the superstar. "Even though Aamir did not like AIB Roast, I still love him and respect him from the bottom of my heart," Ranveer said at the India Today Conclave 2015. While wishing the PK star on his 50th birthday, Ranveer praised Aamir lavishly for his contribution to the Indian cinema, the report stated. "He has been a game changer of content. He is the poster boy for blurring the lines between alternate and commercial films. His bravery blends these two worlds. All his choices Talaash, Lagaan, Rang De Basanti, Taare Zameen Par, they were all integrated. They mix the best of both worlds. He made commercial successes of the kind of content you couldn't have imagined would be commercially viable. He is a revolution," Ranveer said to PTI.

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Aamir Khan has justified his stand in the AIB Roast controversy by saying that his reaction was more emotional rather than moralistic. The actor was quoted in the report as saying that, "I'm aware that if you sign up for the Roast, you sign up to insult each other. But, in this case, even those who hadn't signed up were being targeted, like Farida Jalal, Reema Lagoo and a beautiful, young girl I love dearly. The young girl whom I've known since she was a kid, was the butt of racist and sexist jokes. She did not even know that a live audience was watching this and couldn't protect herself. That is unfair! This is what I meant when I described the show as 'violent.' Films which depict violence are fictional but this young girl is real. So my reaction was more emotional than moralistic."

The actor also reasoned that while his film Delhi Belly was riddled with expletives, they hadn't targeted anyone. "I have no moral issues with the use of expletives in content meant for adults. When we made Delhi Belly we were making a film which was meant for an adult certification," said the actor.

According to a report in Indiaglitz.com, Aamir Khan's fan has written an open letter to the actor's detractors. The fan has stood up in support of the actor and questioned the grounds on which his favourite actor is being condemned for voicing his opinion in the AIB Roast controversy. According to the fan, Aamir had reacted the manner in which he had because he hadn't seen the edited version of the Roast but rather heard an account of things that transpired at the event from the horse's mouth. The fan also justified Aamir's displeasure with the language, even if he had produced a film like Delhi Belly that was riddled with expletives. In the actor's defence, the fan reasoned that just because Rohit Shetty bombs cars in his films doesn't imply that he would enjoy a car blast in real life too. The fan summed up his letter by pointing out the various causes for which Aamir had been the first one to speak up.

After stand up comedian Russell Peters responded strongly to Aamir Khan's criticism of the AIB Roast of Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, seems like another celebrity has not taken to Aamir Khan's response too kindly. His Dil Hain Ki Manta Nahi co-star Pooja Bhatt lashed out at him. According to reports on Hindustan Times, Pooja was quoted as saying that the Aamir Khans of the world were more frightening and self-righteous. She added that she was appalled at his sudden self-righteous mode, reminding him of his body of work including PK. Pooja said that the PK poster left nothing to the imagination and even put Sunny Leone to shame.

The report states that Peters has asked the actor to “mind his own business” and to “shut up.” Aamir’s reaction did not go down well with a large section of people, including international stand-up comedian Russell Peters, who was quoted in the report questioning who who is Aamir to say that he found it violent and that AIB and rest involved should have been responsible? He was further quoted asking him to "shut up and take care of his own business." The report further stated that Russell criticised Aamir saying that he only reads out scripted lines in front of the camera, and he is giving his opinion about something that is honest.

According to a report in NDTV.com, Anurag Kashyap hasn't taken too kindly to what Aamir Khan had to say about the controversial AIB Roast that was pulled down from YouTube due to its content. At a recent event, Aamir had said, "I was most disappointed in what I was hearing. I completely believe in freedom of speech but we have to understand that we all have a certain responsibility. When I heard what was being told to me, it was a very violent event. Violence is not just physical, it can be verbal or emotional. When you insult someone you are perpetuating violence and you are boasting to the world 'Look how violent I am'. Like Alia, Deepika and Sonakshi, Anurag Kashyap too was a part of the 'Roast' as an audience and seemed to have enjoyed his time there. He was also seen laughing at the jokes cracked at his expense. And to voice his opinion on Aamir's comments on the 'Roast,' Anurag has reportedly posted a link on his Facebook page, directing to the video where Aamir had spoken in defence of the 'DK Bose' song. Aamir had said, "I have already informed my audiences that it is an adult film. Please do not go with your kids and those who have a problem with this kind of language shouldn't come either. I try my best to inform the audiences before-hand. Then they can decide themselves. If the audience is adult, they can decide themselves. So from my end I do all these things for my fans."
