AIB Knockout: Bollywood's edgy exchanges at the 'roast'

All India Bakchod, who were recently in news for their video about net neutrality, have apparently turned down an offer to write a script for Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor. Ranveer and Arjun are reportedly hosting an upcoming awards and AIB had been approached for the same. While it may be assumed that AIB is distancing themselves from the two actors after all the flak they received for AIB Knockout Roast, a Bollywoodlife.com report quoted a source saying that the stand-up comedy group had another film assignment in hand and hence they turned down the offer.

AIB Knockout: Bollywood's edgy exchanges at the 'roast'

According to a report, a division bench of the Bombay high court restrained the Bund Garden Police in Pune from taking any coercive steps against four co-founders of AIB. This means police can’t arrest them, till the next hearing on March 16 in an alleged obscenity case registered by the Pune police, the report stated. The HC bench of Justices Ranjit More and Anuja Prabhudessai after perusing Supreme Court rulings cited by AIB advocate Mahesh Jethmalani observed that, "prima facie, the language used does not disclose an offence of obscenity." Jethmalani said the show called AIB — The Roast where celebrity artists made adult jokes on various topics including politics and the film industry, made out no case of obscenity. The report quoted him saying, "In the course of a humour show, the language may have been vulgar or abusive, but the law as held by the SC makes a distinction between vulgarity and obscenity. The intention was only to amuse, not titillate. The FIR is only a form of harassment."

AIB Knockout: Bollywood's edgy exchanges at the 'roast'

In a first of its kind comedy show in India, All India Bakchod released AIB Knockout — The Roast of Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh on YouTube on January 28, 2015. Karan Johar, who was the Roast Master, began the show saying, "Let the filth begin." At the roast, few AIB comedians made fun of top Bollywood actors Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. The humour was explicit ranging from the stars' sex lives to toilet humour to digs at the not-so-good moments from their careers. The comedians did not spare anyone, be it Roast Master Karan Johar, the stars in the audience (including Deepika Padukone), or the comedians themselves, everyone became a target on the show.

AIB Knockout: Bollywood's edgy exchanges at the 'roast'

The AIB Knockout was a one night only event where Bollywood stars Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor got taken down a notch by All India Bakchod and some special guests live on stage. AIB threw the funniest, nastiest and most politically incorrect insults at Ranveer and Arjun, and all they could do was just grin and bear it. While it was great to watch these stars take everything in with a smile on their faces, Karan Johar played a perfect Roast Master. What followed was an entertaining exchange between the stars, a few highlights of which are as follows...

Ranveer says 'I love you' to Deepika?: Reportedly, Ranveer has finally said the three magical words to alleged ladylove Deepika in public! According to a report on bollywoodlife.com (which has now been pulled off), Deepika and Sonakshi were at the event to be the spectators to Ranveer and Arjun Kapoor getting grilled at the roast. Amidst all the bold and hilariously edgy exchanges that took place on stage, Ranveer reportedly confessed his love for Dippy. The report quoted a source saying, "Ranveer was seen mouthing I love you to Deepika in between breaks. Even though he didn’t say it on mike, several attendees saw him say it and look at Dippy who too was the subject of several jokes on the show." [sic]

Ranveer smooches KJo: At an AIB Knockout event held in Mumbai, Bollywood biggies brought down the house introducing the concept of a 'roast' to the Indian audience. Celebrities shed their stardom and participated in this show that would be remembered for reasons more than one. But what took the cherry on the cake was Ranveer Singh's impromptu act. According to a report on pinkvilla.com, Ranveer smooched filmmaker Karan Johar on stage! This sudden act left everyone surprised including Deepika Padukone who was present to cheer him, the report further states. Even Karan Johar played a sport and took this entire thing in the right spirit.

Ranveer-Arjun patch-up: The bromance between Gunday co-stars Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor, who then shared a great chemistry, apparently ended with a reported cold war that began way back in 2012. According to a report in Mumbai Mirror (dated June 11, 2014), a TV commercial that was to be filmed in the third week of June, was hit for a six because the two actors refused to shoot together. Apparently, they didn't want to shoot together because the differences between them had plied since their last release. However it looks like they have patched up for good as the duo were seen at the AIB Knockout having a great time. The event was fashioned to have the Bollywood stars 'roast' out each other in public. According to a report on pinkvilla.com, it was a huge success thanks to the sporting nature of our stars, especially Ranveer, Arjun and Karan. Moreover, the presence of Deepika Padukone and Sonakshi Sinha, who were there to support their respective 'alleged' boyfriends, was the cherry on the cake, the report further states.

Parineeti chickens out at the last moment: While several top Bollywood celebs dared to attend the event, actress Parineeti Chopra dropped out as she apparently felt the risque humour would hurt her 'bubbly' image. Parineeti was supposed to be a part of the comedy event that would trade insults with actors Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor with Karan Johar as the roast master. But she seemed to have developed cold feet at the last minute, reports Mumbai Mirror. The report quoted a source saying that the actress was initially excited about the show but once she was told what to expect, she voiced her reservations to the organizers. "She feels the explicit humour AIB is known for will work against her bubbly, girl-next-door image. She was apologetic but eventually dropped out. It's difficult for the troupe to get a replacement for her at the last minute," said the source. Confirming the news to Mirror, AIB stated, "It is with much regret that we announce that Parineeti Chopra will no longer feature on the AIB knockout between Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh due to some last-minute unavoidable circumstances." When Parineeti was asked if she ditched the event because she wasn't comfortable with what was to come, the actress, who was in Dubai for an event said, "I can't attend the event because of a personal reason."
