60th Britannia Filmfare Awards: Best Actor (Male) nominations

The coveted Filmfare Awards, introduced in 1954, are set to honour the crème de la crème of the film industry in its 60th year. Here's taking a look at the stars vying for the title of the Best Actor in a leading role (male) at the 60th Britannia Filmfare Awards 2014.

Aamir Khan - PK: The perfectionist actor of Bollywood broke all records with his latest film PK which grossed over Rs 600 crore worldwide. Aamir, who is known to get into the skin of his character, went the extra mile for this socio-satirical film. Aamir, who was seen in nine different avatars in the film, learnt Bhojpuri language after undergoing intense training. Reportedly the actor ate over 1000 paan during the course of the film to get the right colour in his mouth. His nude poster with a transistor covering his modesty got him the right attention for his film.

A remake of Tamil film Thuppakki, the film went on to become the biggest nett grosser of the first half of 2014. Akshay played an army officer in the film and he had to lose some weight to fit in the role to look 12 years younger from his real biological age. He also sported a crew-cut hairstyle for his role.

Randeep Hooda - Rang Rasiya: Randeep Hooda impressed many with his portrayal of Raja Ravi Varma in this period drama titled Rang Rasiya. His performance, maturing from a selfish artist to the first determined defender of the freedom of expression in modern India, was commendable and lauded by critics as well. Randeep even performed bold scenes for the passionate love story and had even confessed that he had no inhibitions in shooting intimate scenes with co-star Nandana Sen who played the painter's muse.

Shahid Kapoor - Haider: Shahid Kapoor earned critical acclaim for the role of Haider Meer. He has already won accolades for the portrayal of titular protagonist in this film which is a modern day adaptation of William Shakespeare's tragedy Hamlet. Shahid did justice to Hamlet, a quiet, fine-boned boy, descending into a man whose eyes gleam with hate. The controversial subject matter garnered enough attention for the film but Shahid and Tabu's performances in particular were praised by all. Shahid believed that Haider would be a turning point in his career.
