After working in showbiz for decades, R Madhavan feels lucky to have received an opportunity to work with Ajay Devgn for the first time, with Shaitaan. The supernatural thriller directed by Vikas Bahl pits the duo against each other.
Talking about working with Ajay, Madhavan says, "I have been in the industry long enough to know that I have been a huge fan of Ajay Devgn's work.
I did not get a chance to interact with him before this movie and I have really seen him act and I have been a huge fan of the way he emotes subtlety and does the kind of role he does. Even during the publicity he doesn't take credit and walks away. I can tell you that if there is any Singham the real Singham of the industry then it is this man (pointing at Ajay) over here who I became a huge fan. I did ask him the question... bhai why are you not doing this role because it is the most masala role (which Madhavan is doing). When we shot the film we did not decide the title of the film. I did not know how important the character will be. We have seen the film earlier and it was a villain but then you saw the teaser they made it about Shaitaan which is my character! Today, I saw the trailer and they highlighted the Shaitaan in it. I feel someone needs to have so much love so one could give such laddu (meaty roles) to some other actor."
Ajay who's back to supernatural genre said, "This is the kind of genre I have been waiting to do since a long time. I did one long time ago, Bhoot with Ram Gopal Varma. Black magic jaisi cheeze har culture mein maani jaati hai. Long ago when we used to go outdoors for shoots waha aise cheeze hui hai."
Speaking about Vashikaran, which forms the backdrop of the film, Madhavan said, "Vashikaran is not always about what we see in films. Social media bhi aapko vashikaran kar deta hai. See what happened with Blue Whale ..log apne kaboo mein nahi rehte hai."
Ajay feels that the genre of horror and supernatural has always been popular among the audience. "Bhale film me stars ho ya na ho Ramsay Brothers ki films chalti thi. I got appreciation for Bhoot but uske baad aisi films hi nahi mili."
Producer Kumar Mangat also hinted at having a sequel to the film. Madhavan has been getting attention for his evil character. Back home too he left his wife spooked. He shares, "When I decided to do this film... I didn't know kis level tak hum logon ko darane wale hai. Mujhe yaad hai ke jab I showed this trailer to my wife woh alag nazar se mujhe dekhne lagi. She asked me to talk from a distance (laughs). I think iss film se mujhe farak padne wala hai (filmmakers and audience will see him in a different light)."
The film marks a comeback of South actress Jyothika to Bollywood after 25 years. The Doli Saja Ke actress said, "It was a big thing for me to comeback to Bollywood with a film like this. I have also got a place in the film's poster. I liked the way how Ajay Devgn conducted himself."
