Kirron Kher and
Anupam Kher, who have been married for more than 40 years, share a strong bond. Kirron, now a politician, had previously spoken about ending her first marriage to Gautam Berry before tying the knot with Anupam.
A Defining Moment in Calcutta
In a 2013 interview with Firstpost, Kirron said she remembered going to Calcutta for Nadira Babbar's play when Anupam appeared looking different with his head shaved for a film he was doing. As he was leaving the room, he looked back at her, and something passed between them. Later, he came and knocked on her door, saying he wanted to talk to her. He told her that he thought he had fallen in love with her. Suddenly, there was an immense and intense change, the chemistry exploded. She got a divorce and married him, even though he had nothing then.
The actress reflected on her friendship with Anupam before they got married, saying that they were both involved in theatre in Chandigarh and were the best of friends. She mentioned that there was nothing he didn’t know about her, and she knew everything about him, even which girl he was planning to "patao."
She described their time together as fun and said they worked well together, but emphasized that there was no attraction beyond friendship at that stage.
Friendship Before Romance
She went on to say that after moving to Bombay, she married Gautam Berry, but they realized the marriage wasn’t working. Anupam had also been married before, and that relationship had ended. Despite this, she and Anupam remained good friends and continued acting together in plays.
Building a Family Together
Anupam Kher and Kirron Kher have been married since 1985. While they don’t share biological children, Anupam embraces Kirron’s son from her previous marriage,
Sikandar Kher, as his own, cherishing their bond like that of a father and son.
