Dharmendra and Shammi Kapoor were among the most beloved stars of Hindi cinema. Both actors were known for their larger-than-life personalities and popularity. On one occasion, Dharmendra shared a light-hearted story about Shammi Kapoor that delighted fans. The veteran actor had once recalled how Kapoor had offered him an unusual breakfast: a combination of raw eggs and brandy.

During an appearance on Indian Idol season 13, Dharmendra revisited the incident. He said, "I was once going for a shoot to Srinagar with Nutan, and we had to reach early." As Dharmendra was getting ready for the journey, Shammi Kapoor asked him, "Have you done your breakfast?" Dharmendra told him that he had already eaten before leaving. However, Shammi Kapoor was not convinced and insisted that he eat once more.

Shammi Kapoor's unconventional breakfast

What followed became one of Dharmendra’s most memorable experiences with the actor. Shammi Kapoor cracked two eggs into a glass. He then added a splash of brandy and presented the mixture to Dharmendra as breakfast.

Memorable film collaborations of Shammi Kapoor and Dharmendra

Shammi Kapoor and Dharmendra also shared the screen in several films. One of their most notable collaborations was 'Hukumat'. Directed by Anil Sharma, the film emerged as the highest-grossing Bollywood drama of 1987.
The two iconic actors reunited once again in 'Mast Kalandar' which turned out to be a superhit. Shammi Kapoor passed away on August 14, 2011, after battling chronic kidney failure.Meanwhile, Dharmendra died on November 24, 2025, at the age of 89 at his home in Mumbai. Dharmendra's last appearance was in the 2025 war drama 'Ikkis' which was directed by Sriram Raghavan and starring Agastya Nanda in the role of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal. Dharmendra played M. L. Khetarpal, father of the youngest Param Vir Chakra recipient, in the film.
