It has been a decade since
Vidyut Jammwal made his debut with Force, directed by Nishikant Kamath and produced by
Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The producer and actor went on to work on a couple of projects after that, including three successful films in the Commando franchise, and the yet-to-release Sanak. Talking about the change he sees in Vidyut over the last decade, Vipul says, “He was exceptional then and that hasn’t changed.
He could do stuff that is difficult to imagine. He has mastered the art of fine-tuning his style of performing action scenes with every passing film. He creates newer styles within a genre. Also, his understanding of cinema has improved a lot. He makes a lot more effort to get into the skin of a character, which shows in his performances. They’ve dramatically improved. His command of emotional scenes and action sequences is more refined than it was when he started off. In fact, if you look at him from Commando to Commando 3, you realise he has indeed come a long way. Commando is moving into its fourth edition soon, and not without a reason. He held the fort so well. With Sanak, he has hit a different standard of action. There is an overarching growth, fast improvement and a welcome change in him as an actor. He’s become hugely dependable as an artiste and Sanak will underline that.”
Over the years, Vidyut gained popularity and a strong footing in the business for his exceptional ability to perform any kind of action with ease. His agility is something that has been duly noticed and appreciated by one and all. Bring this up and Vipul, describing his protege’s quest for perfection, says, “I have seen that he is never happy and satisfied. He is constantly seeking ways to improve. Even with Sanak and Commando 3, he decided to change everything we had in mind for the action scenes, but eventually, we got some amazing stunts in the films which added to the overall quality of the project. He works closely with action directors. Vidyut has his expertise and research handy. He puts a lot into action scenes. Once he’s done putting something together in a film, his question is naya kya karein agli picture mein. He has shown me so many new things and ways of doing things, which we have added to Sanak. It adds novelty and finesse and brings an international standard to the action scenes. Even when Vidyut is not shooting, he works hard to hone his craft which shows in all his films.”
