Tribute to Satish Kaushik
The much-loved actor and comedian, Satish Kaushik was an alumnus of NSD and FTII, and started off as a theatre actor before getting his big break in films in the early eighties. His film career spanned more than four decades and besides being an award-winning actor, he was also a filmmaker, screenwriter and director. He was also a well-known figure on TV and scripted and anchored game shows as well.
Comedy King
He began making a mark in several films in the ‘80s and ‘90s. He acted as Calendar in Mr India and as Pappu Pager in Deewana Mastana. He was the recipient of the Filmfare Best Comedian Award for the film Ram Lakhan in 1990 and then won it again in 1997 for the film Saajan Chale Sasural.
Directorial Debut
In 1993, he branched off as director of the Sridevi starrer, Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja. Two years later, he directed the film, Prem, however both films did not do well at the box office. He had to wait till 1999 for a hit when he directed the romantic drama starring Kajol and Anil Kapoor, Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain.
Film Company with friend Anupam Kher
The two had been batchmates at the capital’s National School of Drama and together they set up Karol Bagh Productions in 2007. Their first film directed by Satish Kaushik was Teree Sang on the topic of teen pregnancy. He was working on another film on the life of Tansen in the court of Akbar.
Last Holi Party
Among his last Instagram posts contained a series of happy Holi pictures at a party hosted by Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi in their house in Mumbai. Friends in the Industry
Satish Kaushik was equally well-known for his genial and helpful nature. Anupam Kher tweeted that he was a friend of 45 years and the late actor has been receiving tributes from everyone ranging from PM Narendra Modi, Madhur Bhandarkar, Kangana Ranaut, Manoj Bajpayee and Varun Dhawan among others. Everyone has commented on his friendly nature.
