Timeless Love Returns: Lamhe Comes Back to the Big Screen
Over three decades since it first graced the silver screen, Yash Chopra’s Lamhe is set for a grand return to cinemas as part of PVR INOX’s Timeless Classics initiative. On March 21st, audiences across the country will have the rare chance to experience one of Hindi cinema’s most beloved and daring romantic dramas in its full big-screen glory.
First released in 1991, Lamhe defied conventions and expectations. At a time when mainstream Bollywood largely adhered to formula, this Anil Kapoor–Sridevi starrer told a layered, unconventional story of love across time, loss, and rediscovery. Featuring Sridevi in a striking double role and a cast that includes Waheeda Rehman and Anupam Kher, the film combined Chopra’s emotive storytelling with Shiv-Hari’s memorable score and the sweeping visuals of Rajasthan and London — creating a cinematic experience that still resonates.
Speaking about the re-release, Niharika Bijli, Lead Strategist, PVR INOX, noted,“We are thrilled to have Mr. Yash Chopra's Lamhe as part of our Timeless Classics initiative, reaffirming our commitment to reviving masterpieces on the big screen—where they truly belong.”
Actor Anil Kapoor, reflecting on the film’s impact, called it “one of the most timeless films” of his career.
“Ahead of its time when it released in the '90s, the film has only grown in love and admiration over the years and continues to be as relevant today. It remains one of my finest collaborations with Sridevi and Yash Ji. As it returns to cinemas, I deeply miss them, but I’m thrilled that a new generation will experience its magic on the big screen, while longtime fans can relive nearly three hours of pure nostalgia.”
Lamhe’s return is more than a trip down memory lane — it’s a celebration of storytelling that was bold, emotionally complex, and unapologetically cinematic. With themes of love, grief, and renewal, the film continues to find new meaning in a changing world.
