Saroj Khan bid adieu to the world as she breathed her last at the age of 71. She had choreographed almost all the leading ladies of Bollywood had a glorious career spanning over four decades. Saroj Khan had followed her passion for dance since a very young age and had become an assistant by the age of 13. In a throwback interview with Rediff.com, Saroj Khan had revealed that at the age of 14 she was in a relationship with choreographer Sohan Lal, who was 43 then. They had two children - Raju Khan, who is a choreographer and Cuckoo Khan. Saroj Khan had stated in the interview that since Sohan Lal was not ready to give his name to the kids, she married a Pathan and they had a daughter Sukaina Nagpal.
Saroj Khan was popularly known as Masterji by Bollywood celebrities. The last song that she worked on was ‘Tabah Ho Gaye’ featuring her favourite protégé Madhuri Dixit. Remembering Saroj Khan, Madhuri Dixit had shared on Twitter, “I’m devastated by the loss of my friend and guru, Saroj Khan. Will always be grateful for her work in helping me reach my full potential in dance. The world has lost an amazingly talented person. I will miss you.”
Over three National Awards, numerous iconic dance numbers and having working with actors like Sridevi,
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Juhi Chawla, Kareena Kapoor Khan and
Shilpa Shetty Kundra among several other stars – Saroj Khan was indeed a legend.
