Supriya Karnik, who has worked extensively across Hindi, Marathi, and South cinema as well as television, has opened up about her decision to remain unmarried. At 51, the actress says there isn’t a single, definitive reason behind it.
‘There is no right or wrong person’
Speaking to Siddharth Kannan, Supriya said, “There is no fixed answer. I don’t look for a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ person because such definitions don’t really exist.”
She added that life doesn’t always go as planned. “Either you don’t get married, or you don’t want to. Sometimes you want to, but it doesn’t happen. It’s not a big deal,” she shared.
Reflecting on her younger years, the actor revealed, “When I was 25–26, I wanted to get married. But today, I don’t think that way. And it’s not like I’m depressed because I don’t have a boyfriend or didn’t find someone. If I didn’t find someone, I didn’t—that’s it.”
‘Heartbreak is not limited to romance’
Addressing rumours that she has faced repeated heartbreak in love, Supriya clarified that emotional hurt isn’t limited to romantic relationships. “Even today, I experience heartbreak—but it’s not necessary that it comes from a romantic partner. Anyone can break your heart—a sibling, a friend, or someone close,” she said.
She emphasised that while she holds love for everyone, she doesn’t forget people’s actions. “I don’t hate anyone, but I never forget what someone has done to me. I learn from it,” she added.
Reacting to speculation about being cheated in love, Supriya responded in her trademark candid style. “If something like that happened, I would bury it six feet under,” she said, dismissing the narrative.
‘Companionship doesn’t need romance’
The actress further shared that she doesn’t rely on romantic relationships for companionship. “You can find companionship in friends and family as well,” she said.
She also admitted she doesn’t resonate with conventional ideas of romance. “I don’t understand when people say they’ll bring the moon and stars. People should be practical,” Supriya concluded.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the
