Sunny Deol's ‘Lahore 1947’ may get a new title before Independence Day release
One of the most anticipated films, ‘Lahore 1947’, starring Aamir Khan and Sunny Deol, is set to release on August 13, 2026, just ahead of Independence Day. The period drama has generated massive buzz due to its powerful subject and star-studded team. However, recent reports suggest the makers are considering changing the film’s title before its theatrical debut.

Makers exploring a new title

According to Bollywood Hungama, the team feels the current title may not fully capture the film’s emotional core. A source revealed, “Lahore 1947 is based on the famous play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya’. Since the film is set in the Pakistani city and during the Independence period, the title Lahore 1947 was initially deemed suitable. But now the makers feel that there can be a better title that is apt for the story of the film.
Sunny Deol’s Unbelievable Comeback That Rewrote Bollywood Rules
The insider added, “Accordingly, they have come up with a few options. Another round of meeting will happen with the stakeholders and if all are on the same page, the name of the film will undergo a change.”

A Partition Story Rooted In Humanity

The film draws inspiration from Syed Asghar Wajahat’s celebrated play set during the Partition era. It follows a Muslim family that migrates from Lucknow to Lahore and is allotted a grand haveli left behind by a departing Hindu household.
Their new beginning takes an unexpected turn when they discover the elderly Hindu matriarch still living there and unwilling to abandon her ancestral home.

Cast and crew

Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and backed by Aamir Khan, the film reunites Santoshi with Sunny Deol after several memorable collaborations. Alongside Deol, the ensemble cast includes Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal and Karan Deol in significant roles, with Aamir Khan also appearing in a supporting part.
