Soha Ali Khan admits to being ‘constantly anxious’ as a mother to daughter Inaaya: 'Not all of India is in the 21st century'
Actress Soha Ali Khan gears up for the release of her upcoming film 'Chhorii 2' alongside Nushrratt Bharuccha, which is all set to premiere on OTT on April 11.
Soha steps into the role of a powerful antagonist in this sequel, which delves into deep-rooted superstitions surrounding the birth of a girl child. Soha, mother to Inaaya Naumi Khemu, born in 2017, spoke about her experiences of motherhood off-screen.
In a conversation with News18, Soha drew parallels between the film’s themes and her personal experiences as a mother to her daughter, Inaaya. She shared, “You’re constantly anxious. Is she sleeping too little? Is she sleeping too much? I’m already anxiety-ridden, and if you’re a mother to a girl child, then you’ve even more concerns.”
Touching upon the emotional rollercoaster of parenting, Soha acknowledged the complex layers that come with raising a girl in today’s world. Balancing the urge to protect while granting freedom is a constant challenge, she admitted—especially in the age of digital exposure and online threats.
Soha didn’t shy away from addressing the societal disparities that still exist in many parts of India. According to her, being a woman in this country can be fraught with risks at every stage of life. She pointed out that an individual’s experience is often shaped by their upbringing, location, and the values that surround them. "Not all of India is in the 21st century, " she stated.
While her own upbringing was relatively sheltered, Soha revealed that her decision to be part of Chhorii 2 wasn’t driven solely by its social undertones. However, working on the film did offer her insight into the harsher realities many endure—realities far removed from her own lived experience.
Exploring the psychology of her character, Soha expressed how the film gave her a deeper understanding of how circumstances, rather than inherent evil, often influence a person’s actions.
Helmed by Vishal Furia, Chhorii 2 will begin streaming on Prime Video on April 11. The film also features Gashmeer Mahajani, Saurabh Goyal, Pallavi Ajay, Kuldeep Sareen, and Hardika Sharma in key roles.
