'Shivaji Ganesan should be given Bharat Ratna'

mumbai: noted film actor and mp sunil dutt on sunday said 'nadigar tilakam' sivaji ganesan, who passed away last week, should be awarded bharat ratna posthumously for his outstanding contribution to film industry. speaking at a joint condolence meeting of several cultural institutions here at shanmukhananda sabha, dutt said, "sivaji was not only a great actor but also a fine human being who exercised maximum potential not for personal glory but towards the uplift of humanity." dutt, who has acted in films which were re-make of films acted by sivaji, said, he deliberately avoided watching the original tamil version because he knew he would never be able to rise to the height of shivaji's acting who was a perfectionist.speaking on the occasion, state chief secretary v ranganathan said, "sivaji did not merely act but lived the role he acted" and added he identified himself with the character and was outstanding for his modulation of dialogue delivery, along with facial expression, movement before the camera, action and reaction. noted ghazal singer rajinder mehta sang a specially composed song on shivaji during the condolence meeting.
