Delhi-based singer Shibani Kashyap is all set to make her acting debut with the movie 'Ranveer – The Marshall'. Shibani, who’s busy shooting for the movie in Mumbai, tells us, “I’m totally excited about my debut film. But yes, I haven’t let my first love, singing, take a back-seat. I was shocked when I was offered to act in the movie by director Milind Ukey, who’s also directed the film Paathshaala.

I received a call from Milind initially asking me to sing for his movie, but when we met, he was impressed with my personality and immediately offered me a role in the movie. I was hesitant at first but later agreed to do the role.”
But why did she decide to take up a negative role in her debut movie? She says, “It hardly makes a difference whether it’s a negative or a lead role. I was more concerned about the character that I was to play in the movie. The role is challenging and really interesting at the same time. It was a totally different experience for me. I had to undergo martial arts training for a few months to mould myself into the character. But it was not that difficult for me as I have been into fitness for a long time.” She continues, “It’s an action-oriented movie with a strong message for all women today to learn self defense in order to protect themselves. Even though my character is a negative one, I’m still happy to be doing something different.”
Shibani adds, “We have completed the first schedule of the movie shoot in Dehradun and now the final shoot is in Mumbai. The movie includes actors like Rati Agnihotri, and a new actor, Faith.”
When asked how her husband, actor Rajiv Roda, reacted when she told him about her acting debut, she laughs and says, “Rajiv just couldn’t believe that I’d got an offer to act in a movie. It’s Milind who had all the faith in me and offered me the role. But Rajiv is very thrilled and has been very supportive.” Does she plan to act with her husband someday? “Why not? Offers toh aa rahe hai... lekin it’s too early to say anything,” she replies.
Next , Shibani plans to do an item song jazz trilogy. She elaborates, “Singing will always remain my passion. I plan to do a jazz trilogy based on three popular item songs – Sheila Ki Jawaani, Munni Badnam Hui and Chikni Chameli. On World Music Day, I had recorded a jazz version of Sheila Ki Jawani, featuring Indo-Bahrain rapper Earl Edgar. The video went viral within days of it being uploaded online. It garnered over one lakh views. Keeping in mind the soaring popularity of the song, I decided to do an item song jazz trilogy. I want to revive the old item songs and make them sound unusual and peppy. These days it’s more of an e-age, hence I want to upload the songs first on social networking sites and let them go viral, after which I plan to release the songs depending onthe viewership and popularity of the song.”
