He started off as a comic actor with films like ‘Style’, ‘XCuse Me’ and ‘Golmaal: Fun Unlimited’ and, after establishing himself in Bollywood,
Sharman Joshi went on to do serious roles in movies like ‘Rang De Basanti’, ‘Life…In a Metro’ and now the upcoming drama-thriller ‘Kaashi In Search of Ganga’.
In a recent interview with Bombay Times, Sharman Joshi said that he is well aware of the fact that the audience considers him as ‘the funny guy’ of Bollywood and that that perception stems from the fact that he has worked in comedies that have done well at the box office.
““I come from theatre and I have done a lot of dramatic stuff when I started off and emotions and drama come more naturally to me than comedy. Comedy is something that I had to really work on. Fortunately, I got to play some really interesting plays early on in my career that allowed me to hone that talent of mine. In the initial years, most of the films I did were comedies and they were successful and so the perception of me playing lighter roles is justified, but physically I am matured and lately people have offered me more drama-based characters and that is great as it comes more easily and naturally to me. It is my first instinct as an actor. Having said that all kinds of emotions for an actor are difficult – be it action, comedy or drama – nothing is easy. And you said about transition, there was no real transition. For me transition was during my earlier days, when emotions came to me easily and comedy was the transition,” explained the actor.
Dealing with the subject of a missing sister and the subsequent search to find her, ‘Kaashi In Search of Ganga’ is slated to release on October 26.
