Salman Khan recalls taking a loan to buy a Rolex worth Rs 9 lakh for father Salim Khan: 'Do you think of yourself as some king?'
Salman Khan may be one of Bollywood’s biggest stars, but the actor says the first luxurious thing he ever purchased after entering films was for his father, veteran writer Salim Khan. And to buy it, he had to borrow money.
In a recent conversation with Variety India, Salman recalled taking a loan to purchase a Rolex watch for his father at a time when he had barely started earning.
“The first expensive thing I bought was a Rolex watch for my father. When I got the watch, I didn’t have the money for it, but I liked it for my father.”
“At that point in time, it cost something like nine lakh rupees. I had four, rest I got as a loan.”
However, the gesture did not immediately impress Salim Khan, who questioned Salman for spending so extravagantly early in his career.
“When I gave it to my dad, he said, ‘You haven’t even started working properly, and you started doing all these things. Do you think of yourself as some king?’”
Salman added that although his father was initially unhappy, he eventually became fond of the watch and even described it as “a piece of jewelry.”
Years later, the same Rolex found its way back to Salman.
“When I started wearing watches, he gave me this one,” the actor shared.
“I had stopped wearing watches for the last 26-28 years of my life. Now, if you see me wearing a watch, those aren’t always mine. They belong to friends.”
“I take them to try on, wear, and then they go back to them. I just have that one Rolex. Rest all belong to my friends.”
The actor also has SVC63 with Nayanthara. Directed by Vamshi Paidipally and backed by Dil Raju, the film is expected to release on Eid 2027.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the latest Hindi movies, upcoming Hindi movies in 2026 , and Telugu movies.”

Salman Khan says he doesn’t own a luxury watch collection
The actor also addressed rumours surrounding his supposed luxury watch collection and insisted that most of the watches people see him wearing actually belong to friends.“I take them to try on, wear, and then they go back to them. I just have that one Rolex. Rest all belong to my friends.”
