Saapna Mukerji praises Aditya Dhar for reviving 'Oye Oye' in 'Dhurandhar 2': 'The song has travelled beyond time'

Beyond its gripping narrative, intense action, and standout moments, 'Dhurandhar' has also drawn attention for reviving iconic retro tracks. The first instalment brought back classics like 'Hawa Hawa' and 'Ramba Ho', reintroducing vintage charm to a new audience. In 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge', filmmaker Aditya Dhar continued this trend by incorporating evergreen hits like 'Tamma Tamma' and 'Oye Oye'.Among the recreated tracks, 'Oye Oye (Tirchi Topiwale)' has particularly stood out, especially in a high-voltage climactic sequence featuring key characters. The song’s placement and presentation sparked conversations, with many viewers revisiting the original from 'Tridev', picturised on Naseeruddin Shah and Sonam, further fuelling nostalgia across generations. Reflecting on the song’s resurgence, singer Saapna Mukerji shared with CNN News18 Showsha, “I had a quiet smile. Oye Oye chose its moment to return. And what made it even more special was the timing. I had just performed at a very special concert for CISF and NSG jawans, where the same song was celebrated with so much pride and energy,” highlighting the emotional connect surrounding the track.Mukerji further added, “Then to see it come alive again in 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge,' used twice, even in the end credits with my voice and Amit Kumar’s making the melody immortal again, it felt like the song was finding its place across generations once more.” Saapna appreciated how the recreation retained the essence of the original composition.Praising the filmmaker, she said, “What I truly appreciate here is the honesty and respect. In today’s time, many people use songs and do not give credit. But this young man Aditya Dhar, an amazing producer-director has done that. I’m thankful. He deserves a big thank you. Finally, someone has acknowledged those who originally composed, arranged and sang the song,” commending his approach of preserving musical integrity.Speaking about younger audiences rediscovering the classic, Mukerji noted, “That is the true legacy of music. When a new generation goes back and discovers the original, it means the song has travelled beyond time. They’re not listening to something old, they’re experiencing something timeless. For me, that’s the biggest blessing as an artist,” emphasising the enduring appeal of the track. Saapna recalled her early days, sharing, “During our time, we were not chasing trends or hook-lines. The intent was always to create music that was complete in every sense. We made history with 'Oye Oye'. Its composition and arrangement gave it a sound that was ahead of its time,” reflecting on the song’s original success in 'Tridev'. Concluding her thoughts on 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge', she said, “I think it understands the balance between nostalgia and today’s storytelling. It connects with the audience without losing the emotional depth and that’s very important,” appreciating how the film merges classic elements with contemporary cinematic sensibilities.
