Rohni Hattangadi recalls when Rajinikanth handed over his personal fancy fan to her during 'Insaaf Kaun Karega'; Says, "He's a Gaikwad"

Rohini Hattangadi, known for her powerful performances in 'Gandhi' and 'Chaalbaaz', is celebrated for her prolific work across Marathi, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Gujarati films, as well as Marathi television and theater. And of course, no mention of her career can be complete without her unforgettable role in 'Saaransh'.With nearly 50 years in the film industry, Rohini was delighted to share warm wishes and memories with Rajinikanth, who will also mark 50 years in Indian cinema with the release of his upcoming film 'Coolie'. Rohini and Rajinikanth worked together in 'Chaalbaaz'—which also starred Sridevi, Sunny Deol, and Anupam Kher—as well as 'Insaaf Kaun Karega'.In an exclusive conversation with ETimes, Rohini fondly recalled her time working with the superstar. Speaking about 'Insaaf Kaun Karega', she said:“On set, he was a wonderful co-actor, and as a human being, he’s a gem. One memory I’ll always cherish is from the shoot of 'Insaaf Kaun Karega' somewhere in the South. Back then, there were no air conditioners or vanity vans—only personal fans. We all sat together on the sets. Rajinikanth had this fancy square-shaped hand fan—half fan, half like those vintage video games. I only had a paper folding fan. He noticed this, handed me his fan, and said, ‘You use it… you need it.’ I kept that fan with me for many years.”She also remembered his incredible sense of humor during 'Chaalbaaz', his collaborative work style, and his humility despite being a superstar.“He worked with everyone—the director, co-actors, and crew—without any grudges or inhibitions. That’s when I truly realized what made him a superstar. He was so down-to-earth.”On a personal note, Rohini revealed a cultural connection that made her feel even closer to Rajinikanth:“I always felt connected to him because Rohni Hattangadi recalls when Rajinikanth handed over his personal fancy fan to her during 'Insaaf Kaun Karega'; Says, "He's a Gaikwad"—a Maharashtrian. I don’t know about him, but it happens to me… When I meet someone who speaks our language or shares our roots, I instantly feel a bond.”Having worked in almost all four South Indian languages, Rohini smiled when asked about teaming up with Rajinikanth again.“Fingers crossed,” she replied warmly.
