As Dhurandhar and its sequel Dhurandhar: The Revenge continue to dominate both box office and conversations, producer
Bhushan Kumar has weighed in on the film’s impact — strongly backing
Ranveer Singh and director
Aditya Dhar for National Awards.
‘Ranveer Singh 100% deserves a National Award’
In a recent interaction with Faridoon Shahryar, Bhushan Kumar didn’t hold back in praising the film’s lead star.
“100%. And not just Ranveer Singh — many people deserve it. Aditya as well — superb,” he said, when asked if the actor deserves a National Award for his performance.
He also spoke about Ranveer’s standout emotional moments in the film, particularly scenes that have left audiences deeply moved.
“Ranveer Singh is a very intense performer... a flawless actor. The way he expresses emotions through his eyes — it’s powerful. He’s extremely passionate and dedicated,” Bhushan added.

Bhushan Kumar emphasised that while Ranveer’s performance stands out, director Aditya Dhar played a crucial role in elevating it.
“A performer needs someone who can extract that emotion, someone who can bring it out and say, ‘Yes, this is brilliant.’ That combination of Ranveer and Aditya Dhar is superb,” he said.
He further revealed that the actor had been waiting for a role that could tap into his inner intensity.
“He always had that fire within him and wanted someone to bring it out. I’m very happy for him — the way he has performed in both parts is fabulous,” he shared.
‘Dhurandhar is a win for the industry’
Calling the film’s success important for the industry, Bhushan Kumar said such big hits help bring audiences back to theatres.
“It’s very good for the industry. A film like this becoming such a big hit creates the urge among people to go to theatres,” he noted.
However, he also acknowledged the pressure it creates.
“Now people will expect that level of quality. Obviously, every film cannot be Dhurandhar, but it pushes everyone to think bigger,” he said.
‘You can’t copy success, audience is smart’
Bhushan also spoke about how Dhurandhar has inspired filmmakers but warned against imitation.
“You cannot copy a successful film. After Animal, people tried to copy its elements, but that doesn’t work. Every film has its own world — Animal is different, Dhurandhar is different,” he explained.
“The audience is very smart. They immediately catch if something is copied. Makers need to reimagine and do things the right way,” he added.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the
