'Ramayana' to advance Diwali release date; Ranbir Kapoor and Yash starrer eyes October 30 theatrical debut - Reports
The makers of 'Ramayana' may just be gearing up to release their magnum opus a week before its initial release. Amid much hype and anticipation for the film's Diwali release, new reports suggest that the Ranbir Kapoor and Yash starrer, directed by Namit Malhotra may arrive a week before the festive season.
Almost a month after Yash first teased at CinemaCon, that the film will release around 'end October', a new report on Bollywood Hungama has teased that the movie is now eyeing an October 30, 2026 theatrical debut. As per the report, producer Namit Malhotra is exploring the possibility of releasing the film ahead of the festive holiday "so that the business peaks in the second week. He is here to redefine business by not just bringing a pre-Diwali release, but also a film that scores a bigger second week than the first due to the festive period."
The makers are said to be discussing plans to advance the film's release and "a final decision will be taken soon."
Speculation around the revised timeline came when actor Yash said to a Hollywood news portal, “‘Ramayana’ we are planning this year, (on) Diwali, which is October last week.”
If the release date is shifted to October 30, the film could gain an early advantage at the crowded year-end box office. It would also avoid a cash at the international box office with 'Godzilla Minus Zero' and 'The Cat in the Hat', both currently slated for November 6 releases. The move could also boost its IMAX screenings as both 'Ramayana' and 'Godzilla Minus Zero' are reportedly targeting premium large-format screens.
The report further stated that the official release date announcement may depend on the finalisation of the film’s distribution deal. The makers are reportedly in talks over a massive Rs 450 crore distribution offer, with negotiations still underway.
'Ramayana: Part One' was announced for a Diwali 2026 release, while 'Ramayana: Part Two', the second instalment of the ambitious mythological epic is currently scheduled for a Diwali 2027 release.
