Ram Charan, Vijay Deverakonda, Suriya: South superstars who failed to make it big in Bollywood
In the recent past South films have emerged as huge hits with the Hindi audience. South superstars also ventured into Bollywood, but not everyone succeeded to make an impact. Riding on the success of a hit like ‘Arjun Reddy’, Vijay Deverakonda failed to weave magic with ‘Liger’. In the past Ram Charan, Prabhas and several others have met with a similar fate in Bollywood. Take a look:
Ram Charan – Zanjeer
In 2013, Ram Charan marked his debut in Bollywood with ‘Zanjeer’. The film was released in Telugu as ‘Toofan’ and featured Priyanka Chopra as the leading lady. This entertainer was a remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic film by the same name and despite all the star power, ‘Zanjeer’ failed to work its magic at the box office.
Vijay Deverakonda – Liger
Expectations were high from Vijay Deverakonda starrer ‘Liger’, which was helmed by Puri Jagannadh. The actor had worked hard for his Bollywood debut, which was released post the pandemic. The movie looked promising from the posters and Vijay’s chemistry with Ananya Panday was also shipped by fans. But ‘Liger’ fell flat at the box office, all the popularity failed to translate into numbers.
Prabhas – Saaho
Fresh off the success of ‘Baahubali’, Prabhas plunged into the shoot of his maiden Bollywood venture ‘Saaho’. Helmed by Sujeeth, this action thriller presented Prabhas in a completely different avatar. Shraddha Kapoor essayed the lead in this entertainer opposite Prabhas. Made on a grand budget, ‘Saaho’ opened to poor reviews and failed to recreate the success of ‘Baahubali’.
Suriya - Rakht Charitra
South superstar Suriya essayed the lead in Ram Gopal Varma helmed ‘Rakht Charitra 2’. It was released in Tamil as ‘Ratha Sarithiram’. Fans enjoyed Suriya’s performance in this action packed saga, wherein he battled it out with Vivek Oberoi. However, the popularity of Suriya and ‘Rakht Charitra 2’ didn’t exactly set the cash registers ringing at the box office. Post this 2010 release, Suriya has never really ventured into Bollywood films as a lead.
