Rakul Preet Singh reveals Bollywood stylists charge from Rs 15000 to Rs 1 lakh for one event, one outfit: 'Living in Mumbai requires a lot of PR'
Actor Rakul Preet Singh, who has primarily worked in the Telugu and Hindi film industries, feels that being in the film industry requires a strong sense of self-discipline because there will be many people, including the actor's entourage, who can provide advice nonstop. Rakul appeared on the Beer Biceps podcast, where the host brought up the comment made by filmmaker Rohit Shetty a while back about how hard it is to make multi-starrer movies these days since young actors are so influenced by their entourage.
When questioned about whether actors' entourage causes them to feel insecure, Rakul shared, “Yes you’re right. You’ve to be silly to believe everything you hear. A lot of people will give you several advices, but you’ve to use your own mind. What Rohit sir said is probably right. In South, the old school single manager system is still in place. They don’t have a huge entourage; you don’t have 10 people telling you what’s good for your positioning or what’s not.”
She further added, “It’s important to listen and respect them. They know what they’re saying but do what you feel is right. As an actor, your actions will go out in the public, so you’ve to be responsible for yourself.”
Rakul Preet shared how she bonds with her colleagues through food and exercise rather than gossip, stating that they play a key role in her life. She stated, “You are who you surround yourself with. You spend more time with your core team—hair and make up, spot boy—so it’s important to know what energy they carry. I don’t want to listen to gossip at 7 in the morning, I’m not interested in knowing about someone else’s life.”
Bollywood is a "different beast," according to Rakul Preet Singh, who made her Hindi film debut in 2014 with Yaariyaan. She stated that working and living in Mumbai requires a lot of "PR, visibility, positioning, and brands," which she eventually learned.
The actress further added, “I didn’t know during promotions that I had to get a stylist. I learnt that right before my promotions were starting and I thought, ‘My God this is so expensive!’ This is 12 years ago. Stylists ate expensive, they can range anywhere between Rs 15,000 to a lakh for one event, one outfit. You learn from all these things.”
On the work front, Rakul Preet will be next seen in the most anticipated film, 'Indian 2', where she will be seen sharing the screen with Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan. She also has 'De De Pyaar De 2' with Ajay Devgn in the pipeline.
