Priyanka Chopra, who is busy with the shoot of her next film 'Varanasi', took time out to help spread diabetes awareness in India. In her latest interview, the actress, opened up about her personal journey after marrying
Nick Jonas, who has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
The actor, featured on National Geographic list of celebs who use their platform to address stigma and promote early detection of the condition. Speaking about diabetes awareness in India, Chopra noted that while the country has the highest number of diabetes cases, "awareness is really low," she said.
Sharing her personal journey on learning about the condition, she recalled her early fears after her marriage to Nick. Sharing how she was initially anxious, she said, "I used to wake up in the middle of the night sometimes, just to see if he was breathing."
Sharing the importance of awareness, she said, "Don’t be afraid of the diagnosis… You can handle and live with this condition - and actually thrive with it."
On a personal level, Priyanka has been a part of a nonprofit co-founded by her husband, which has reportedly held awareness campaigns in India focused on early diagnosis. The initiative has also reached global platforms, including the United Nations General Assembly.
Alongside her advocacy, Priyanka has been busy juggling her film star career. The actress most recently released her debut Hollywood production 'The Bluff'. She was also a favourite at Hollywood's awards season, not just appearing on the red carpet, but also turning presenter for the shows. She was also spotted at fashion events around the globe, while also attending Hollywood parties ahead of the Oscars.
On the work front, Chopra will begin the next schedule of 'Varanasi'. As per reports, the SS Rajamouli directorial will move production to Antarctica for a portion of the film set to be shot at the Ross glacier.
