Pratik Gandhi: I never judge the morality of a character
From a scammer, Harshad Mehta in Scam 1992, a romantic in Do Aur Do Pyaar to a social reformer in his upcoming film Phule, Pratik Gandhi has played varied roles. And the actor is in no mood to judge these characters in terms of their morality while picking them up.
He tells us, “I don’t restrict myself when picking these characters. If I get excited about the film and the storytelling is working for me then I take up the film. The project should be exciting enough for me where I see the possibility of enhancing my knowledge and my experience while working on it. At the same time if I can add enough value to the film while working on it. Also, there is no one genre that I am attracted to. And I never judge the character or the morality of the character and that’s the fun.”
In an earlier chat with us, Pratik opened up about playing the titular role in his upcoming film Phule. The movie chronicles the life of Mahatma Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule, a pioneering couple in the 19th-century India who bravely fought against caste discrimination and advocated for women’s education. The two actors will share some intense and powerful moments on screen.
He had said, “Portraying this character in a realistic way, without imposing judgment or bias, was tough. These are complex figures—Jyotirao and Savitribai were among India's first reformers. As I delved into their story, I realised that many of the issues they faced are still incredibly relevant today.”
