'Peddi' actor Boman Irani on Amitabh Bachchan in 'Waqt'; recalls ‘special privilege’ of working together
'3 Idiots' star Boman Irani has looked back at one of the most defining collaborations of his career, sharing memories of working alongside Amitabh Bachchan. The actor described the experience as a significant milestone that shaped his understanding of performance and professionalism in cinema.

First collaboration in 'Waqt' left him nervous

Boman Irani recalled that his first on-screen collaboration with Amitabh Bachchan was in the film Waqt. He admitted that stepping into scenes with such an established figure initially made him both excited and anxious. The actor shared in a chat with IANS that he briefly questioned how he would hold his own while performing alongside a personality of such magnitude. However, that nervousness gradually gave way to learning and confidence as the shoot progressed.

Boman Irani's realisation about acting as a learning process

As his experience with the project deepened, Boman said he realised that acting is not defined by seniority or experience alone. Instead, he emphasised that every performer contributes something unique, regardless of their career stage. He noted that working with seasoned actors and observing their craft helped him grow as an artist. Over time, he began to see acting as a continuous process of learning and adaptation.

‘Special privilege’ of working with Amitabh Bachchan

Speaking about his experience, in an exclusive conversation with IANS, Boman said, “It’s a privilege to work with everybody. Of course, it’s a special privilege to work with Mr Bachchan. When I worked with him for the first time, I thought how will we do it? But realised eventually, they are all artists."

Learning extends across generations of actors

Boman Irani also spoke about how his learning process extends beyond senior actors and includes younger generations as well. He expressed the belief that every interaction on set offers something new, regardless of age or experience. “If I don’t learn something from a Gen Z person, then I am a fool thinking that I am more experienced than them. Every day you learn something new. From Mr Bachchan, I have learnt 5000 things. From a Gen Z person, I might learn 50 things. But I learn, and for me that’s very exciting," he added.

'Waqt' collaboration and ongoing career

Boman Irani had earlier shared screen space with Amitabh Bachchan in Waqt, a film that also featured Priyanka Chopra, Shefali Shah, Akshay Kumar, and Rajpal Yadav in key roles. On the work front, Boman Irani is set to appear next in Ram Charan's 'Peddi', which is scheduled for theatrical release on June 4.
