Nushrratt Bharuccha's de-glam roles that impressed audiences

Nushrratt Bharuccha has played some memorable roles in movies like Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Dream Girl and the Pyaar Ka Punchnama movies. While her glamorous avatars have always worked wonders with the audience, her rustic, homely and de-glam characters have also impressed the audience. ETimes looks back at Nushrratt's small-town roles that may not have created box office fire, but certainly left lasting impressions on the viewers.

2/6

Janhit Mein Jaari

Playing the author-backed role of Manokamna, Nushrratt excelled at depicting both the strength of a woman and her frustrations in dealing with a patriarchal society. Manokamna sells condoms for a living and while her family reconciles with her progressive thoughts, it's her to-be inlaws and her husband who have to come to terms with her taboo-twisting career.

3/6

Chhorii

It's not everyday that a horror film brings in elements of misogyny, patriarchy and chauvinism, but that's exactly what Chhorii did. Nushrratt's character of Sakshi faced the evil of many kinds in this tale of psychological traumas. Not only did she question Indian society's rudimentary practices, but also raised a valiant fight against infanticide and foeticide.

4/6

Hurdang

As far as college and political dramas go, the women are often left as second fiddle to the men and their games of power and deceit. But Nushrratt's portrayal of Jhullan commanded attention and respect. While she was playing Sunny Kaushal's love interest, her character still played an active and instrumental role in the political landscape of this historical.

5/6

Ajeeb Daastaans

Playing the quintessential housemaid named Meenal, Nushrratt brought in unseen shades of naivety and innocence to her performance. This was a strikingly different role from her otherwise polished and very alluring characters. Not only was her character homely and real, it was the perfect bout of freshness that Nushrratt's career required.

6/6

Chhalaang

A feisty teacher who doesn't let the male-dominated machinations of society run her down was the pitch-perfect role for Nushrratt. Again, she fit into the rustic character with ease and brought her characteristic charm and charisma to a role that could have been lacklustre. It was Nushrratt's fine keynotes that added so much gravitas to this performance.
