'Summer House' star KJ Dillard made a deeply personal revelation during the season 10 reunion, sharing that he was hospitalised for self-harm after the season wrapped and was subsequently diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. The 28-year-old opened up about the experience during the first part of the reunion, which aired on Tuesday, May 26, crediting castmates Ciara Miller and Mia Calabrese for standing by him throughout the ordeal.Dillard, who joined the cast during the summer of 2025, told host Andy Cohen that the two women were beside him as he navigated what he described as "some heavy stuff mentally" in the months that followed filming.

"I actually had to go to the hospital for self-harm," he said. "I was there for a week. Mia and Ciara were there almost every day." Dillard began to cry as he shared the news, with co-star Jesse Solomon stepping forward to embrace him. He went on to say that he spent several months in recovery following his hospitalisation. "I've got to focus on myself. I needed that," he said.Dillard also reflected on patterns he recognised in himself leading up to the crisis.
"My whole life, I distracted myself and ran away from my issues instead of facing them head-on," he said, adding that he is now in therapy and taking medication.While in the hospital, he was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, a serious mental illness that affects how a person feels about themselves and others and can make it difficult to function in everyday life.

KJ Dillard on his recovery and gratitude

Despite the difficulty of what he went through, Dillard expressed genuine gratitude for having come out the other side. "I'm grateful that I'm here alive because I could have not been. I'm thankful for the support of my friends. Like everyone here has somehow shown their support in their own way. So I appreciate that," he said.He also spoke about his decision to share his story publicly. "I'm very thankful that the audience is embracing that, because it's my truth. I'm not gonna not be honest about what I'm going through, especially if it can help others," he added.Costar Jesse Solomon was visibly moved, telling Dillard, "I feel for you. I'm glad you're good, because I don't want anyone to go through that." Carl Radke added that KJ will "keep doing great stuff."Dillard first joined 'Summer House' in season 10, quickly becoming one of the more talked-about new additions to the long-running Bravo reality series. The second part of the season 10 reunion continues to air on Tuesdays, with fans already expressing support for Dillard's honesty and openness about his mental health journey.
