Now a movie on football

After cricket and hockey, here’s a film that deals with football
Now a movie on football
A film on football is rare to come by, but “Stand By”, which releases today, follows footballers for the state of Maharashtra Rahul Narvekar (Adinath Kothare) and Shekhar Varma (Siddharth Kher), two friends whose sole passion in life is the game of football.
They come from contrasting backgrounds but both share a common dream – of representing their country India on the international stage.

They feel their dream drawing even closer when the state wins the prestigious Santosh Trophy after over a decade.
But things turn ugly, when fates are no longer decided on the grounds. Shekhar, the team’s captain and son of a prominent industrialist, is left out of the national team. As time goes by, Shekhar is made a standby striker in the team, but only after his father intervenes and takes matters in his hands. He is put in place of one of the four strikers who were originally selected. A dirty game with cheap politics follows.
Director Sanjay Surkar says about the film, “The film should at least inspire players and their families to stick to their guns despite all odds. I hope everyone enjoys the narrative.”
Producer Prakash Choube says that he feels “extremely proud of the fact that I’m a part of this film.” He adds, “My production house (BRC productions) comes into existence with this film, so it’s extra special to me.”
