Known for her elaborate costumes, Neeta Lulla, in a rare instance, finds herself in the centre of controversy with her designs for Ashutosh Gowariker's ambitious period film, 'Panipat'. Her costumes are being compared to the ones designed by Anju Modi and Maxima Basu for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Bajirao Mastani' in 2015.
Netizens have gone to town about Arjun Kapoor's look as the commander-in-chief of the Maratha army being similar to that of Ranveer Singh's Bajirao look.

While talking to a tabloid about the comparisons, Lulla, who sourced fabrics from around the country, said that she can't change history to make costumes look different as Panipat and Bajrao are set in the same era. Besides, she added that Sadashivrao Bhau (the character played by Kapoor in the film) ] is the nephew of Bajirao Peshwa.
For Parvati Bai (warrior queen played by Kriti Sano), who's Sadashivrao's wife, Lulla picked up sarees from Kolhapur and Pune, and mixed the prints and re-stitched them.
