Music connects me with divinity: Neil

Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh, who’s a die-hard music lover, talks about his love for music.
If music be the food of love... play on,’ said William Shakespeare. But even before that, I feel, music has been the language of the Gods. In fact, my strongest connection with divinity is Music. Having been born in a family of illustrious musicians, my grandfather being the beloved legendary Mukesh and my father Nitin Mukesh, I feel blessed being known as Neil Nitin Mukesh.My love for music started the day I was born. As a toddler, I reacted to music more than words from the books that my mother often read to me. So needless to say, music became my first language and slowly but surely I started accompanying papa to his concerts, the world over. I went with him for his recordings, where I had the good fortune of meeting world-class singers and musicians, who have left an indelible impression on my very being. At a time where most kids would buy their first bicycles, I wanted a keyboard and sure enough I always had my way (smiles). By the time I was five, I started my first lesson in singing with Guruji Pandit Jagannath Prasadji, who was also my grandfather’s Guruji. I would happily play popular Hindi film tunes on my harmonium, sometimes even at the cost of not finishing my homework. Today, composing music is a passion, second only to acting. No tall claims of being the next Beethoven or Mozart, I humbly admit that I do it just for pure happiness and to connect with my inner sanctum.
