Mother’s are born with superpowers and literally nothing in this world can be done without them. They are the solution to all our problems. When it comes to Bollywood, mothers have always played a very important role. From supporting mothers to strict moms, Bollywood has seen it all. As we celebrate Mother’s Day, let’s have a look at the list of iconic on-screen mothers who have become synonymous with playing the Mom, just the way Amrish Puri was with playing the Villain:

Reema Lagoo

The late actress was one of the most loved actresses on-screen. The actress carved out a niche for herself in Hindi and Marathi cinema was best known for her performances. She essayed the role of a doting mother in several films but her character in ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun…!’ and ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ were the most appreciated ones. Apart from Salman Khan, she played mother to other actors like Govinda, Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and others.

3/7

Kirron Kher

Kirron’s most loved motherly on-screen character is ‘Dostana’ and ‘Rang De Basanti’. She won the hearts of many with her hilarious dialogues and comic timing. At the same time, she has also managed to pull off serious roles in films like in ‘Fanaa’ and ‘Veer Zaara’.

4/7

Rakhee

‘Mere Karan Arjun aayenge’- is the most popular dialogue by the iconic Rakhee in the film ‘Karan Arjun’. She is also known for other memorable performances in films like ‘Ram Lakhan’, ‘Dacait’, ‘Khalnayak’, ‘Baazigar’, and ‘Border’. Raakhee also played Amitabh Bachchan’s mother in the classic ‘Shakti’. The actress was 35 years old then, while Big B was 40.

Jaya Bachchan

After taking a break for a while, Jaya made her come back with Karan Johar’s ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’. Her character and dialogues are quite famous even today. Her scene with Shah Rukh in the film is used as a meme by the youngsters. She also played Preity Zinta’s mother in ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’.

6/7

Sridevi

Late actress Sridevi was one of the most adored actresses in Bollywood. Her last film ‘Mom’ was highly praised by the audience and critics. She played the role of a mother and her character was quite strong. The late Sridevi was awarded the Best Actress posthumously for her role as a vengeful mother in ‘Mom’.

7/7

Nargis

Last but not the least, legendary actress Nargis Dutt, the mother of all mothers, played the most iconic character in ‘Mother India’. In the movie, she strongly and single-handedly raises her two sons against all odds. Her character won all the praise from critics and audiences alike.
