Mehmood's younger brother Anwar Ali mourns Junior Mehmood's death: 'This bond was truly special'

Junior Mehmood who is known to act in more than 200 movies across various languages and was known for his comic timing largely, passed away at the age of 67. He was battling with Stomach Cancer for a while and was around his close friends and family when he breathed his last. The actor, whose real name was Naeem Sayyed, had been undergoing treatment at Mumbai's Tata Memorial Hospital and was in the process of recuperating at home.

While the industry and his fans mourn his losss, his friend Anwar Ali is saddened by his death. He told ETimes, "Saddened to lose a member of our family, albeit devoid of any biological connection. This bond was truly special and will ever be. My son Akaar was fortunate to spend time with Juni yesterday. God bless his loved ones who handled this unprecedented crisis with calm and strength. My love and prayers."

Anwar is Junior Mehmood's contemporary and the legendary actor Mehmood's younger brother. Junior Mehmood's name was Naeem Sayyed and he was given the name Junior Mehmood by Mehmood himself after he started his career with him at the age of 8. His debut film also starred Jeetendra and was called 'Suhagraat'.

Before his passed away, actors like Johnny Lever, Jeetendra and Sachin Pilgaonkar had paid a visit to him. Sadly, his condition took a turn for the worse, requiring oxygen support, but he couldn't overcome the challenges posed by the advanced cancer. Close friend Salam Kazi, who confirmed the actor's demise to ETimes, revealed that Junior Mehmood had been unwell for two months. The funeral is scheduled for around 12 pm at the Juhu Muslim Cemetery in Santacruz West, where his mother is also interred.

Junior Mehmood is particularly remembered for his performance in films like 'Kati Patang', 'Aan Milo Sajna', 'Caravan' among many others. He has also directed many Marathi movies.
