Manoj Bajpayee opens up on how 'Animal', 'Sam Bahadur' impacted 'Joram' box office collection
Manoj Bajpayee's recently released thriller drama 'Joram' earned several accolades at various international film festivals, failed to garner attention at the domestic box office.
In an interview with News 18, Manoj Bajpayee opened up about how the release of Ranbir Kapoor's 'Animal' and Vicky Kaushal's 'Sam Bahadur' affected the box office performance of his latest film, 'Joram'.
Manoj shared that the need to create records has made directors and producers money-minded. The 'Family Man' actor pointed out that he has always spoken against the obsession with box office. According to him, it has ruined the culture of filmmaking in our country.
The actor went on to say that numbers being thrown at people’s faces isn’t the right thing to do. He further added that 'Animal' and 'Sam Bahadur' are two very big films. A lot of money was spent on them and he also said that there was and is still hype around 'Animal'.
The actor explained that they couldn’t afford to spend that much money on the film because 'Joram' was a different kind of film, and they could only allot a certain amount of money to promote and publicise it. He also said that they didn't want to overburden their film and that they were very practical and realistic about it.
Manoj Bajpayee further explained that how the urge to create more numbers has ruined the authenticity of cinema. He also expressed his disappointment at how 'the audience has started to speak that language'
For the universe, directed by Devashish Makhija, 'Joram' was released in theatres after a long run at festivals, including the Busan International Film Festival, the International Film Festival Rotterdam, and most recently, the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.
It also stars Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Rajshri Deshpande, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Smita Tambe in pivotal roles.

So more buzz and right release time would have been helpful. Look at 12th Fail that started on a slow note but gained momentum like anything.
Joram looked like a very sad movie in trailers so may be people avoided that movie. Also it was and is running in very limited screens so is not accessible to many. A lot of us might also wait to watch it in OTT rather.
The good part is that the trailer of Joram was running in packed houses - screens where Animal and Sam Bahadur were being played.
But somehow people were not much interested to see this may be more buzz was required. I am sure it's a great movie and will possibly also do wonders in the upcoming awards season - Filmfare ETC
