Maker of 'Sanam Teri Kasam' Deepak Mukut confirms the film's sequel; 'story doesn’t end, reboot in store'

Producer Deepak Mukut has confirmed that ‘Sanam Teri Kasam 2’ is officially in the works. He shared the update as the romantic drama marked its 10th anniversary since its release. Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru directed the 2016 film, which starred Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane in the lead roles. Mukut announced the sequel while reflecting on the film’s journey, from its modest theatrical run to its massive revival years later.

The confirmation came via an emotional Instagram post from Mukut to mark the decade milestone. In the post, the producer reflected on the film's production, its delayed success, and the response it eventually received from audiences.

'Sanam Teri Kasam' sequel confirmed by producer

Deepak Mukut shared the update directly on Instagram, discussing his long-standing passion for filmmaking. In his post, he wrote, “I have been drawn to filmmaking since I was a kid. What attracted me the most was being an enabler who set it in motion. Being a producer means donning multiple hats. From the script, to the actors, to the crew, the budget and the innumerable other things that a producer is responsible for.”

He added that he wanted his first production to be a romance with depth. “With my first film as a producer, I wanted to make a romance with a strong emotional core,” he wrote.

Reflecting on the film’s delayed success, Mukut said, “My dream came true with Sanam Teri Kasam. It was the first labour of love under the banner Soham Rockstar Entertainment. While the film didn’t fare well at the box office initially, I always had faith in it.”

He also noted the scale of its later triumph. “It was validated when the film re-released and rewrote history. It became the highest grossing re-released film in Hindi cinema,” he wrote, adding that audience love mattered most to him.

‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ set for a reboot

Released in 2016, ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ struggled during its initial run. Years later, the film found a new audience and became the second-highest-grossing re-release of 2025.

In his closing note, Mukut thanked the film's team, including directors Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, actors Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, and composer Himesh Reshammiya. He wrote, “Vinay, Radhika, Harshvardhan, Mawra and Himesh and the whole team you all helped me realise my dream.”

He ended with a clear confirmation of the sequel. “But the story doesn’t end here, there is a reboot in store,” he concluded.

‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ stars Harshvardhan Rane as Inder Lal Parihaar and Mawra Hocane as Saraswati “Saru” Parthasaarthy. An ex-convict falls for a traditional librarian facing rejection and shame. They marry despite hardships, but Saru’s terminal illness ends her life. Inder later honors her memory, carrying her love forever.
