Mahesh Bhatt’s 70th birthday: 5 Best movies of the filmmaker that you can't miss

An excellent craftsman and even beautiful storyteller, Mahesh Bhatt turns 70 today. Mahesh Bhatt, who has given the film industry some of his best works and talents, has blessed Bollywood with his unique description of timeless tales like ‘Aashiqui’, ‘Arth’, ‘Saaransh’ amongst the rest since the 70s. On the eve of his birthday today, we give you a rundown of some amazing films from the maverick genius that you simply should not miss!

2/6

‘Arth’ (1982)

Mahesh Bhatt made ‘Arth’ in a time when extra-marital affairs were considered culturally out of boundaries. Smitha Patil and Shabana Azmi have performed brilliantly in their opposing roles that make the film so special and relevant till date.

Jagjit Singh's soulful songs like ‘Tum Itna John Muskura Rahe Ho’ and ‘Jhuki Jhuki Nazar’ really add the cherry on the cake.

3/6

‘Hum Hai Rahi Pyaar Ke’ (1993)

Mahesh Bhatt's ‘Hum Hai Rahi Pyaar Ke’ is such a light-hearted and feel-good film that its magic never fails to encompass us even today. Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla are at their finest in the film and the three kids including young Kunal Kemmu are extremely adorable as well.

4/6

‘Sadak’ (1991)

A romanticised version of ‘Taxi Driver’, ‘Sadak’ is unlike any typical Bollywood romance. It's bold and hard-hitting. ‘Sadak’ narrates the story of a taxi driver portrayed by Sanjay Dutt who goes against all odds to save Pooja Bhatt's character from being sold into the vicious trade of prostitution.

5/6

‘Saaransh’ (1984)

‘Saaransh’ deals with old age and the issues that surround the age group. Grieving over their son's loss, Anupam Kher and Rohini Hattangadi's outstanding characters even got the film an entry into the Oscars for the out-of-box concept that captured the pains of old adults living in Bombay city without any familial support.

6/6

‘Zakhm’ (1998)

‘Zakhm’ was based on communal harmony and how certain existent forces divide us on the basis of religion. Apart from Ajay Devgn's stupendous acting that bagged him the National Award, Pooja Bhatt has played a remarkably strong role as well along with Kunal Kemmu's child character that stands out amongst the others.
